As fishing guides we love simple solutions…and it doesn’t get any simpler then the Monomaster. If you fly fish, you tangle leaders. It is as inevitable as finding a leak in your waders on the coldest day of the year. The question is, “What do you do with those tangled leaders?” Throwing them in the river is unfortunately too many folks first instinct. The problem here is that just because the leader floats away doesn’t mean it disappears. Usually what happens is that a bird finds it, gets tangled in it, and then dies, because if you can’t undo your tangled leader the birds got no shot (no opposable thumbs and all). Or, your gnarled leader winds up on the bank down river, ready to ruin someone else’s experience. So once you have eliminated being a blight on society, and littering, the next option is to throw it away in a trash can. Unfortunately I don’t know too many rivers where trash cans are conveniently located in the middle of the run you happen to be fishing. In steps the Monomaster. Attach it your bag, vest, or what have you…stick in the loose end of your tangled mess…twist the knob…and your mess is now nobody else’s mess. When you get home pull out the cartridge and put you used leaders where they belong, in the garbage. Check out this nifty little gadget at any one of our shops, I’ve had one for a while now and it sees plenty of use.
